Family First Home Support was developed out of love and respect for seniors. I was blessed with kind Grandparents (pictured above), who live in the Okanagan and have taught me good family values. They have always made me feel welcome at their homes, offered kind words, interesting stories and wise advice. In 2001, I chose to start a career working with seniors. I was trained by a Registered Nurse through a college in Victoria, BC, and completed a Resident Care Attendant practicum at four facilities. I was hired at Central Care Home in Victoria, and worked in Dementia care. I then worked in the ECU at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox. After moving back to the Okanagan, I managed a day program for a medically fragile adult as a Contractor to Community Living BC. After working with seniors in a variety of settings, I discovered the rewards of supporting seniors who live at home. There are great health benefits to being able to live in one’s own home while maintaining levels of social support and independence (see Research Page).
Our Philosophy:
I have learned through my Psychology degree studies that for optimal health people need to be taken care of holistically (mind, body, spirit and emotions). Our goal is to provide support services to meet the physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs of our clients. We believe in the importance of listening to our clients and respecting their preferences. We serve seniors who require only minimal services, and we also specialize in Alzheimer’s and Dementia care. We put safety first, learn about our client’s interests, and take a strength-based approach that promotes health and well-being (see Research Page). We also serve a special class of seniors: War Veterans. My family has been members of the Royal Canadian Legion for generations, my husband and I are Legion members, and I feel privileged to serve those who have dedicated years of their lives to ensure our freedom and peace.
Do you prefer the same caregiver each visit?
Being a small home support business, we are able to offer consistent care. We believe that it is important for clients to know and trust who comes into their home. We are licensed, insured and bonded with criminal record checks and references. Documents are available to clients and their families for viewing.
